New Auckland Council Website

General News | 07/01/2010

A website for the new Auckland Council has gone "live".

The site at www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz carries information relating to the upcoming local body elections as well as customer service information and frequently asked questions.

The changes to Auckland governance are substantial and the new website will provide the definitive resource for information that residents and ratepayers will need to know about the upcoming elections.

One of the features of the website is a "street find" application which allows people to search their address to find which new ward or local board area they live in.

It also contains sections on:

  • The roles and responsibilities of the Mayor, Councillors and Local Boards
  • An explanation of Council-Controlled Organisations (CCOs)
  • News

More content will be progressively loaded between now and 1 November, when the Auckland Council formally comes into being.

Mark Ford is the Executive Chairman of the Auckland Transition Agency, which is charged with planning and managing the amalgamation of the existing local, district and regional councils.

He said the site is yet another example of the drive towards faster and easier customer access. "The people of Auckland will be able to interact with the new Auckland Council easily through many more channels, including on-line and face to face," he said.

Other initiatives ensuring improved access to the Auckland Council include a network of service centres across the region and a recently announced agreement with the Bank of New Zealand and New Zealand PostShop to provide on-line and over-the-counter transactions.

Up until 1 November people can continue to access information though their current council website.
